gou qi zi

LYCII FRUCTUS, GOJI BERRIES

gou qi zi berries are the superfood of choice as they are veritable vitamin bombs. They contain vitamins C, B1, B2, B3, iron, copper, magnesium, calcium, amino acids, polysaccharides, carotenes and are known for their antioxidant effects. They can be eaten raw as a healthy snack or added to teas, drinks, soups, stews, rice and cereal dishes and even baked goods and desserts. They have a sweet and sour flavor. When added to green tea, herbal tea or smoothies, for example, the goji berries add a wonderful flavor and nutritional value. 

ju hua

CHRYSANTHEMI FLOS, CHRYSANTHEMUM BLOSSOMS

Chrysanthemum blossoms are used for various purposes in Chinese cuisine. ju hua can be used in dishes and drinks to give them a floral flavor. They can be added to salads, soups, desserts or cocktails to enrich the flavor and aroma. The flowers also taste great as a tea. Simply pour hot water over them and leave to infuse for a few minutes. The tea has a mild, floral flavor and is valued for its calming and relaxing effect. But ju hua also supports eye and skin health and can alleviate inflammatory reactions. Chrysanthemum tea also provides wonderful support for well-being in the case of colds with fever. 

dang gui

ANGELICAE SINENSIS RADIX, CHINESE ANGELICA ROOT

dang gui goes very well with soups, rice dishes and stews to give them an aromatic and slightly sweet flavor. Add a few pieces of Chinese angelica root to the pan and simmer with the other ingredients. Remember to remove the root before serving. Another possible use is as a fine herbal tea. Add a few pieces of dang gui root to hot water and leave the tea to infuse. You can enjoy it on its own or combine it with other herbs and spices such as ginger or cinnamon. 

In terms of our well-being, dang gui supports many issues such as relieving menstrual or menopausal symptoms and promoting blood formation (contains iron). This is why dang gui is sometimes called "women's ginseng". It is antioxidative and supports the relief of inflammatory complaints and the immune system. 

huang qi

ASTRAGALI RADIX, ASTRAGALUS ROOT

huang qi can be added to soups, rice dishes and stews to give them a nutritious and slightly sweet taste. Add a few slices of dried astragalus root to the pot and simmer with the other ingredients. You can remove the slices before serving or eat them with the dish. You can also enjoy the astragalus root as an individual herbal tea. Add a few slices of dried huang qi to hot water and leave the tea to infuse. You can drink it pure or combine it with other herbs or spices to vary the taste. 

huang qi has various health benefits such as supporting heart health, the immune system, energy and vitality as well as reducing inflammatory reactions. In TCM, astragalus root is an important means of building up one's own energy and strength. 

da zao

JUJUBAE FRUCTUS, CHINESE RED DATE

da zao is used in the kitchen to give dishes a sweet taste and additional nutrients. You can enjoy the red dates raw as a healthy snack. In addition to their taste, they are rich in fiber, antioxidants, vitamins and support digestion and the liver. Jujube fruit are known in Asia to boost your energy and blood. You can enjoy them on their own or mix them with other dried fruits and nuts. Other possible uses include desserts, cakes or pastries, but also cereal dishes (e.g. rice, oatmeal or muesli) and, of course, teas, smoothies or juices. 

yi yi ren

COICIS SEMEN, COIX SEEDS

yi yi ren is a very valuable source of fiber, protein, vitamins and minerals. Among other things, they support digestion and help with weight management. Coix seeds have a mild flavor and a slightly sweet note. They are very versatile and can be used in soups, stews, jams, drinks and desserts. 

A little tip: To shorten the cooking time, simply soak the seeds in warm water for a few hours or overnight. yi yi ren can also be used as flour. To do this, put the seeds in a food processor or grind them with a mortar. This flour can then be used in baked goods such as bread, cakes or cookies, as a binding agent in sauces or as a thickening agent in soups. In addition, yi yi ren can also be enjoyed as a tea. Boil the seeds directly in water. This tea can be refined with ginger or lemon peel, for example.

LONGAN ARILLUS, LONGAN FRUIT

Dried longan fruit are sweeter and have an even more concentrated aroma. Longan fruit has a sweet taste and a delicate texture and it can be eaten directly as a natural sweet snack or used in muesli, baked goods or desserts. long yan rou can also be used to make tea. Simply pour hot water over the fruit and leave it to infuse for a few minutes. This produces a sweet and aromatic tea that can be enjoyed hot or cold. Longan fruit can also be used to make a wonderful substitute for iced tea. 

chen pi

CITRI RETICULATAE PERICARPIUM, MANDARIN PEEL

chen pi has an intense and slightly bitter taste and is often used as a spice or herbal ingredient. chen pi is typically used in various savory dishes such as soups, stews, broths or sauces. The dried tangerine peel can also be used in marinades and spice mixtures for meat, poultry or fish. It adds a citrusy aroma to dishes, which tastes delicious. chen pi is also ideal for making tea. Simply pour hot water over the dried tangerine peel and leave the tea to infuse for a few minutes. The tea is often used as a digestive aid, to calm the stomach when feeling unwell and to promote a sense of well-being. It is also believed that chen pi promotes the absorption of nutrients and stimulates the metabolism.

A little tip: chen pi has a strong and intense aroma. If you grind the mandarin peel with a mortar before use, you can avoid developing too strong of a flavor. 

hei zhi ma

SESAMI SEMEN NIGRUM, BLACK SESAME SEEDS

hei zhi ma is rich in nutrients such as iron, calcium and unsaturated fatty acids. Black sesame seeds are incredibly versatile. hei zhi ma can be eaten raw. You can take the black sesame seeds straight out of the packaging and nibble them as a snack. They have a nutty flavor and a crunchy texture. You can also roast hei zhi ma to intensify the flavor. The roasted sesame seeds can be used as a topping for salads, muesli, yogurt or desserts. The black sesame seeds can also be ground in a food processor or mortar until a fine flour is obtained. Stir in a little olive oil to make a sesame paste. This can be used as a spread, in sauces or dressings. The sesame flour can be used as an ingredient in baked goods or as a breading for meat or fish. Other uses for hei zhi ma include soups, stews, vegetable dishes or fried rice to add flavor and texture.  

lan gui

CINNAMOMUM VERUM, CEYLON CINAMMON

Ceylon cinnamon can be consumed in a variety of ways. lan gui can be used as a spice in dishes, hot drinks (such as mulled wine), teas or smoothies. Furthermore, this cinnamon can be added to curries, stews, marinades or spice blends to enrich the flavor and add a subtle spice. lan gui contains a number of antioxidants that can neutralize free radicals in the body. According to studies, Ceylon cinnamon may play a supportive role in inflammation and elevated blood sugar levels. Cinnamon can also warm the body and relieve feelings of cold both internally and in the muscles of the trunk and limbs. 

mei gui hua
