Fried Broccoli with Chen Pi and Hei Zhi Ma
INGREDIENTS
- 1 broccoli cut into florets
- 2 tsp chen pi (dried orange peel) / finely chopped
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp maple syrup or honey
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- 2 spring onions / thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp roasted black sesame seeds
- oil for frying
- Salt and pepper to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Bring a pan of salted water to the boil and blanch the broccoli in it for approx. 2-3 minutes until it is al dente. Then drain the broccoli and set aside.
2. Heat a little oil in a pan and fry the chopped garlic until fragrant. Then add the broccoli again.
3. In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, maple syrup or honey, sesame oil, grated ginger and chopped chen pi.
4 Pour the sauce over the fried broccoli and mix well to coat the broccoli evenly. Roast for another 1-2 minutes until the broccoli is flavored with the sauce.
5. Transfer the roasted broccoli with Chen Pi to a serving dish and garnish with spring onions and toasted sesame seeds.
6. Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve immediately.
This simple recipe is suitable as a side dish with rice or noodles or can be served as a main course with additional ingredients such as fried tofu or mushrooms. Enjoy your meal!
