The Treatment of Thyroid Diseases with Classical Chinese Medicine
6 - 7. April 2019
Dr. Li Jie
In this seminar, the 6 most common thyroid diseases will be discussed in detail. The development of the disease through western lifestyle and environmental factors will also be analysed. The treatment with classical Chinese medicine Jing Fang (Zhong Jing's classical herbal formulaa), Ling Shu Jing (classical acupuncture) and pulse diagnosis will also be explained.
According to The American Thyroid Association (ATA), more than 12 percent of the U.S. population will develop a thyroid condition during their lifetime. In addition, a meta-analysis has revealed a prevalence rate of thyroid dysfunction in approximately 7% of the adult population in Europe. Also, data shows that approximately 1 million people suffer from thyroid diseases in the Netherlands. One woman in eight will develop a thyroid disorder during her lifetime. It is clear that thyroid disease is becoming epidemic in western developed countries. It has severe impacts on human quality of life. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the possible etiology and the pathological mechanisms of the diseases from both Western medical and Chinese medical points of view for today’s TCM practitioners.
In this lecture, the 6 most common thyroid diseases, Hashimoto’s Disease, Graves’ disease, goiter, thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer and thyroid inflammation will be discussed in detail. Today’s western lifestyles and environmental factors, such as food, medication, vitamin and mineral imbalances, smoking and viral infections and their influence on the development of the diseases will be analysed.
In CCM (Classical Chinese Medicine), thyroid diseases are called Ying Luo disease. Half of the lecture schedule will explain how to use Jing Fang (Zhong Zhong Jing’s Classical herbal formulas) and Ling Shu Jing classical acupuncture to treat today’s thyroid diseases. In particular, CCM pulse diagnosis in the different patterns of thyroid disease will be explained.
